It’s been an interesting week around here, my youngest son turned 21, my middle daughter bought her last prom dress, while my youngest bought her first. My oldest daughter got good news and I got to have all my children together for not just 1 day but 2. Sorry that the post is a few hours behind schedule but life and the topic today seemed to set it at this time.

Knowing When…

As we have seen on the news and social media there have been terrible events taking place all around us. News like this is always shocking and in many it causes an urge for some form of action. Personally, I see it and it makes my heart ache. I hear the news and wish there were more feel good stories than bad ones. I then wonder what I can do about the situation. Today’s post is “Knowing When…” it is appropriate to post, where and what to say. To know what to post, first you have to know what is going on around you and your networks.

What is your network talking about? Do you see a lot of negativity? Do you wish you could say something but unsure what?

Perhaps go the different route?

Instead of posting something else that’s negative, try posting something that’s positive. Each day of the week has its own set of hashtags. These hashtags are the topics trending for that particular day. As you consider some positive or motivational post think about adding some of the trending hashtags.  Your positive or motivational posts do not have to be something you’ve written it can be a famous quote, a cute video or song that you feel fits the day.

Cause and Effect

Now that you have shared that positive or motivational post, you have done a couple different things. One, you have given the people in your social network something that invokes a positive moment that may just help lift someone’s day. Two, you have shared something personal about yourself, even if it’s not your “quote” it spoke to you. I read a post, Nurture Your Best Clients, just today where the author talked about how we had to interact and get to know one another before social media and mobile devices. How many of us remember how to really interact with each other in a positive manner?

Now is the time

We should share important news. Yes, we should try and help others. We should be aware of what is going on around us and take heart towards our fellow man. We should also consider what we share online. Just as with recycling we can choose to either clutter our timelines or we can choose to inspire them.

This Platform Or That One?

Choosing the right platforms for your company and products can come across in two ways. One, you find it a fairly simple concept and just start signing up for everything you see others using or what suggestions are made by search engines. Two, you begin to feel overwhelmed by the concept and wonder which networks are better for you and all you have to do to set the network up.

We have had an account on Instagram for quite a while but it was not until recently that we have been using it. Why? Because until recently there were no options for us to post for our clients on it, since we were not there for them, we were not there for PM Inc. As you may have realized Personalized Marketing Inc is very much a Client Driven company. We should post more often, we should be more active on our networks, and we should get out and socialize more. However, most of the time you find us working on projects for our clients, doing things to enhance their services, even items that we may not have noticed in our original assessment.

Assessments Matter

Just as with choosing the right social platforms you have to assess whether they benefit you and your products at that time. Our general rule of thumb is if you are never going to use it do not sign up for it. However, if you might one day use it then sign up, get the username you want and then periodically check in on it. Even if it happens to be 10 years later, as in our case, you have the username you wanted. The network is ready and hopefully, you set up a password reminder that is easy for you to use.

As Personalized Marketing Inc expands its own social media presence we may very well find ourselves on networks that we had not considered before. But most likely it will be because we have a client that is there and we want to ensure we have a full understanding of the network without affecting their public profiles.

Our Growth

In the coming weeks, you are going to see some of these changes taking place on the company website. We have a new theme being developed by myself (Dee) and our manager, Cindy. It has taken us a bit longer to get the theme completed than we anticipated but that is because not only does it need to be right but primarily because Personalized Marketing Inc is always focused on the clients first.

We are into the second month of 2018, how are you doing on setting up and following through on your marketing schedule? Have you made your list?  (Things you have to do? Things you want to do? Things you will do? ) Are you following through with your short-term task to reach your long-term goals? Do you plan out what your next steps are or are you winging it?

List, plans and yes even spreadsheets can help you stay on track with your goals. They can keep you focused on what you need to do and what order it needs to be completed. You can often overwhelm yourself if you try and do too many things at once, list help, especially those that continually evolve.

 

Personalized Marketing Inc is making such a list for not just our clients but also for the company. We are proud to say that we put the clients first but that can often mean that we do not always work on our own marketing efforts. That is changing; this blog series and other postings are a part of that. Another mark in this change is our new Manager, Cindy. Just as we tell our clients if you need help ask for it, Cindy is the missing element Personalized Marketing Inc needed to move forward in 2018. She brings with her not just an understanding of relationships between businesses and clients but also planning, preparation and has a skill set that compliments those individuals around her. She gives a new insight into not just Personalized Marketing Inc but that of our clients as well.

To continually move forward, you have to have new insight when you look at your current and future goals. You should get your marketing plan, website, social networks analyzed and see where there is potential growth or changes needing to be made. As with any project you need to have an extra set of eyes to step in and evaluate what you have done so far.  If you are like some, including PM Inc, you may have goals that are outdated and should be changed. One example of a place that change should take place is your ‘About section’ on your website and social networks. Does what you have written there still ring true?  Is your header current or outdated? Do you have your most recent products or skills listed?

Marketing is more than just putting content out on social networks. It is also the content on those networks, it is the content people can find about you, wherever they find it. Marketing is a combined effort pulling in Search Engine Optimization, Search Engine Marketing, and Social Site Marketing while analyzing your demographics and really understanding who your people are. It’s not too late to improve your marketing efforts or get your list written out.

A Few Days Early, But On Time

Today’s post is a few days early but the content is right on schedule with the topics …  

Good morning, as I sit here writing today’s post, I look outside and see the snow falling which brings a slight smile to my face. Growing up I can remember being excited about snow days, then as I became an adult and had to go to work, not so much. Then later with my children, I enjoyed it once again and as they grew up the enjoyment waned until my grandchildren. I like many others only wanted snow on Christmas Morning and it could only cover the grass areas. Now though I am brought back to the joy of falling snow even on the city streets and my sidewalk. This might not sound like a marketing topic but it really is, there are a few keywords already listed, snow, children, grandchildren, enjoy life. Cycles happen, change takes place the same as it does with life.

The Cycle Of Marketing

Like you, I’ve heard about the new changes taking place on Facebook. I have heard about how it will redefine how businesses advertise on it. I like others in marketing know that cycles happen and it seems that Facebook is on a cycle back to its original concept, personal connections. Now, this does not mean that businesses cannot advertise on Facebook, it does not mean that authors or entrepreneurs have lost thousands of hours and suffered a financial setback. It just means that as Facebook changes back to its original concept, personal connections are a must. Which if you have been reading the blog series then you knew this already.

Social on Social Network  

We have had a couple discussions about being social on social media and this is no exception to the rule. When you put a post out it should be going to your personal profile and if not at least a reference to it. If you have a guest on a blog and you are posting it on Facebook, then tag the person, even if you aren’t friends. However, do make that “friend” connection especially to those that you want to continue to work with. But remember “Be Social on your Social Network”, if you have already begun to stop and like something for no other reason than to just be social, then now is definitely the time. Social Media Networks were originally designed to help users like you make a social connection online, granted while earning the company money.

It’s A Holiday Be Socially Thankful & Cycle

As you know today is Martin Luther King’s Birthday and the schools are out, several people are off work, and that strange weekday connection can happen. Stop for a moment, say thank you to those who are your friends or follow you. Look around you and enjoy the life you have. Be thankful for those brave individuals in our History who have paved and paid for us to be here today. Work if you have too but remember that today is more than however many books, pens, cups, shirts, subscriptions, movies or any other product, service or item you offer or sell; it’s also a chance to change your cycle and start something new.

Resolutions and Realistic Goals

 

It’s official, 2018 is here and if you are like us, you have been gearing up and getting ready for the New Year for a while now. However, if you are also like us then you have been waiting on some of those final changes to make sure they are still valid and feeling like you need a roadmap. The New Year often brings thoughts of looking at your goals with a new focus, evaluating what marketing efforts you made in 2017 and what to continue and what to get rid of. You have also probably spent the entire week playing catch-up because you took New Year’s Eve Weekend off, well at least we at Personalized Marketing Inc did.

 

While on the phone with Cindy, our new Manager, I kept thinking “wow I sound scatterbrained” which in retrospect I did. I had a lot of thoughts going through my head, strategies for clients, updates for the website and what the goal is for the company this year. During this conversation, Cindy and I both agreed that we may have an end goal for 2018 but let’s be smart and plan out quarterly what we are going to do. So today’s topic is about setting realistic goals and making resolutions you can actually keep.

Goals

Goal 1, Amazing Services

Continue to provide the best service possible for those that we are graced enough to get to work with. Easy goal right; not always. Sometimes you want to do too much at one time and you end up falling short in more ways than one. Remember that planning is key to remaining on track. Write/type/record what you need to accomplish each day and how it affects your end goals, such as richer organic marketing.

Goal 2, Target Market and Support

Know your markets and the people that support them. We often work with writers and knowing their market seems simple enough, anywhere they are sold or advertising on. Well that’s sort of correct. Markets are more than just a place to buy something; they are also where you go to make connections. The people that support them are more than just the consumers but also the owners of that ‘mom and pop store’, those who tell others about you and ultimately those that stand by your side even when the water is murky.

Goal 3, Evaluate and Realign Your Thinking

If your focus group is dwindling down, is not interested in buying what you are offering or seems easily distracted elsewhere, then it’s time to reevaluate who they are and how you are reaching them. Take a good look at your Analytics (yup I went there) and see who makes up the demographics of your fans or followers. Do you have several others in the same field as you offering the same thing as you? Cross promotions and being nice to the other guy is not wrong but it might explain why you do not seem to be reaching your target audience.

These may not seem like type of goals you were expecting. However, they do cause you to focus more on who you are trying to reach. Prioritize on how to get the attention of that oh so elusive audience; while at the same time keeping those already with you happy.

 

Resolutions

The Resolutions are based on who you are, what you represent and how you want others to feel about you at the end of the day.

  1. Take time to pay attention when someone makes a nice comment about you and thank them for it.
  2. Do not set unrealistic expectations and get mad when they do not happen.
  3. Remember that you would not be where you are today with those behind you, so say thank you.
  4. Be nicer than you were last year, many people, especially YOU; do not like crabby, cranky cashiers at the store. So it is safe to assume that your focus group does not either, remember even if it is a goodbye, say it with a smile.
  5. Make a commitment to setting task along the way to achieving your goals. Goals can be hard to do especially if you are limited on time or do not have any spare room for changes. So instead of worry about “Big Goals” use smaller task. I can assure you that putting a checkmark next to a ‘to-do’ item feels fabulous and keeps you motivated.

Ultimately life is what you make of it. If you are in a positive mood when you begin something, even when it becomes frustrating and trying you will still find joy in your work and are more likely to finish what you started on.

It’s the most Wonderful time of the year… and Possibly Stressful as well.

The Holidays are upon us and not only do we have to find time for family, work, marketing, and all the other jobs we do on a daily basis; we also have to find time for the Holidays and all that entails. Now many of you have been thinking about what your December Goals are for several months, but if you find yourself feeling a little stressed out and not sure where to start, Today Is The Day! It is December 1st, we have 25 days until Christmas, we have 24 days to get our gifts purchased and 21 days for online shopping. That’s right, 21 days for online shopping… and that is only if you purchase overnight shipping by 4 PM December 21st.

As you may have began to realize that a large part of Real Marketing For Organic Growth revolves around finding the time to do it within your budget. But you now have to consider not only your stress levels but also those of your consumers. They have already done their “Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday / Week shopping. They have already began deciding what to get their family and friends, they are already feeling the squeeze in their wallets and are wanting a way to do it all and stay on budget.

So how do you help them and stay on target?

That’s the beauty of having your own products, doing your own marketing, creating your own sales, you can showcase your lovely items and offer special holiday discounts with a little incentive. Asking for shares is one thing, inspiring them is another. Write a catchy subject line, create a motivating phrase, give them something more than just products but also something fun. For the clients of Personalized Marketing Inc and ourselves, we will be spending part of our marketing endeavors on lifting people up, bringing smiles, sharing traditions and hopefully inspiring others to do the same. Sure we will have our own Holiday Discounts but we will also be giving back to those we reach by posting something more than just a sales ad.

This Holiday Season when you think of your promotional post, think of what you see each time you go to your own social networks, are they full of “buy, buy, better buy now” sales ads? Do you find yourself scrolling through those sales ads? Guess what a lot of viewers are too. However, are you stopping to look at the cute videos, maybe the kittens and puppies in holiday cheer, or even commenting on an “Elf On The Shelf” post? Which one do you prefer? I bet your focus group, your consumers, your hopefuls are paying attention to the same thing you are.

You can help them by helping with their stress levels, you can stay on target by offering things that do not cost you anything additional while providing extra marketing materials of your own.

Thanksgiving – To Advertise or Not

I can remember growing up that this time of the year is more about spending time with family and less about getting to the store first. I can remember making memories putting up the Christmas Tree and baking cookies, rather than getting up before dawn to beat everyone else to the store. I also remember these being fond times of my childhood and I want to pass that along to my children and grand children. I did Black Friday one year and that was more than enough for me. Sure I got a great deal on a T.V. and a few other items but I didn’t get that nostalgic feeling I can remember as a child.

The memories our children and grand children are getting include being bombarded with ads in the mail, emails for sales and going to the store suddenly is a health risk and takes even longer than before. While all this is normal at this time of year, it can still be a trying time. Not only are you dealing with others marketing efforts but you also have to do your own.

So, how do you deal with all the advertisements and still entice others to pay attention to yours?

Well you could jump on the band wagon and do your own Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday or Cyber Monday event. You could then piggyback of sorts off all the others that are doing it. You could go a little more traditional and just wish everyone a Happy Holiday Weekend remembering that it is a season of giving and not necessarily receiving. You could also chose to not do anything special at all.

Automation is the key to family time, so find a program and schedule those holiday post now! (Sorta like this article… Scheduled before publication) 

The choice is really yours to make. You have to be willing to make a decision and stand by it. If you do decide to do a special then you should be prepared for a couple different outcomes. One, you do great and get a ton of sales/emails/signups, which then you get the joy of responding to each one. Second, you do the work but do not really see any results from it. Now this does not mean that you did something wrong, it just means that your target group was busy elsewhere and will check you out when they get a chance.

Personalized Marketing Inc, chooses to participate to an extent each year.

We take the Holidays off and spend it with our families. However, we do participate in Cyber Monday with a special on services. Instead of counting on that one day only we do a Cyber Week special. Why? Because we know that if we are busy with family then our focus group is most likely as well.

So deciding whether you want to promote during the holiday season is really based on you and those you focus on. Determining what to promote is also based on the people you want to reach and how you want to grow. Ultimately, it is better to put something out and keep going forward with marketing than it is to not.

Diversify

The very definition of Diversify – “make or become more diverse or varied.” Is a clear indication of not only how we should be as a people but also how we should be in our marketing. As I’m sure many of you have seen the changes to Twitter’s Character count and probably heard about the Business Feed testing Facebook is doing, you may be wondering how it affects you.

If you are selling, promoting, working online, and use social media then you are affected by these changes.

However, there is no reason to raise flags, have a cause for concern or worry about what comes next. As we have discussed in previous articles you are already being social on your social networks. You are already engaging with your friends, fans, followers and you use more than one network.

Also, because the very topic of this article is what you should be doing if you are not already, Diversify. You should not be relying on one particular social media account. There are several different services out there and yes some are considered on the top of the social media “list”. Remember, you define your own top list though. If you find that you have more success from using Pinterest, then it is your top social media.

Cross Promotion is a beautiful thing.

It allows you to diversify and spread the word about you, your company, your book, or your services on various social media networks. Sure when and if the business feeds appear in your location you will want to share that with your followers. However, if you are already interacting with them, they are most likely following you already. Facebook will offer paid services to appear in the main feed and whether you chose to use that option is up to you and your marketing team.

Change in social media is not only expected but going to happen. Not too long ago MySpace was considered a top network on the “list” yet how many people use it or even have their original accounts today?

So embrace the diversity, encourage social interactions and remember that your social media networks are only a part of your online marketing and your website is and always should be the primary source of information about you.

Life Happens 

During our “Real Marketing For Organic Growth” blog series, we have discussed different topics from hashtags to being on different platforms. However, for all of our good intentions, for all of our planning and preparing, Life Happens. Some of life’s changes can be for the better, some though are hard and the world as you know it has changed. Working through this phase in life can prove to be a bigger challenge than what you expected and you find yourself falling short. When this happens, you can either let it beat you down or get back up and try again.

Today’s topic is about realizing that Life Happens.

We are human, we can and will make mistakes. We are going to have moments that prove difficult to bounce back from. We have to accept that we make mistakes. We are not perfect. Recently, I had a llife-changing event and it has rocked me to my core. I made the mistake that I could attempt to bounce back. I made the error thinking that even though I was hurting my brain still worked the same. It didn’t, it doesn’t, they say “Time heals” for a reason. We need time to process, to realign our lives, to simply be nothing more than who we are in that moment.

So as you are going about your marketing efforts and you find that “Life” has other plans, accept that “Life Happens”. If it is something hard, find solace in the people and things that bring you comfort. Give yourself a moment to breath and the time to process what has happened. Do your best to get through it. However, in the end if you make a mistake, learn from it, move on from it, and get up and try again.

I apologize for not getting a blog out sooner, life happened and I am taking my own advice.

We have been discussing how Real Marketing affects Organic Growth, so now it is time to cover Branding. Are each of your profiles easily recognizable? When you visit your networks do you ever check to see what it looks like to the viewers? You should. It will give you a very real look at what they are seeing. Granted most of the people that come to you have an idea of where they are heading but not always and not if you are striving for Organic Growth.

Images, Content, and URLs

Look at the header image, does it represent you and your branding? Can the viewers immediately tell where they are and what you offer? What about your profile picture or logo? Is it continuous from other networks or a random image? Does the image have your company logo? Yes, everyone has a logo or they should have, no matter what service or product you offer. What about the content you are putting on the networks? Do they easily navigate users back to your own home on the web or are those that click the post getting taken somewhere they will get lost in the masses? What about your URLs are they pretty SEO friendly or do they look like a jumbled mess?

Your Home

Your website is your primary home on the web, it should have all of the different places you are found online listed. It should have primary images that are being used on the various networks. It should give the same subconscious message that you see with other websites (Coffee Time Romance, PM Inc). Often times when someone shops for a particular product they look at not just the item but who makes the item. These are products that the companies have taken the time and effort to brand them.

SSM, SEO, and Branding

As Personalized Marketing Inc celebrates another year, we look at the branding we have done so far. We look at the images we have out there and what it says about us. No matter what account you go to we have the same images and same color designs on each of them. Why? Because we want the viewers to know subconsciously where they are without having to guess and what to expect from us. Sure we put out new updated looks on our website but we still stick with the same color scheme, header, and logo. Why? Because we want a universal branding and we have taken the time to do Search Engine Optimization on the items we put out. Even the original banner for PM Inc can be found on a Google Search, we did not delete it, we simply upgraded the look of it.

 

As you look at your branding, think about the images you are using, the fonts you have chosen and the color scheme you have. If any of them do not convey with a look who you are, the message you want to send and the emotional effect you want them to have. It might be time for a change. If you do change your look, make sure that you do it gradually. Do not cause subconscious confusion and make your fans think you are no longer available.
