Christmas Excitement?

Are you excited about Christmas? Have you finished your holiday shopping or are you still looking for that perfect gift?

Christmas is in full swing here at my house. The tree is decorated, the lights are on the porch, gifts are being wrapped, and Christmas Dinner is already being planned. Now, all we have to do is wrap the rest of the gifts, finish planning dinner, cooking dinner, setting schedules, get ready for school break, plan, prepare, change plans, prepare again, make arrangements… etc. We are definitely in full swing here.

So what about marketing, promoting, writing, editing, creating, ya know work?

Well for us, its all about those two final weeks of the month… Christmas and New Years. We already know that working is going to be limited and even if we do get quiet time, Dec 26th is on a Wednesday, which means that there are 3 days from December 24th to Jan 2nd for full days of work. So how do you get 2 weeks worth of work done in 3 days?

You plan ahead, you prepare your post, you schedule the time to focus on specific tasks, and you work as many minutes as possible.

Christmas Spirit Donation Event

Only 25 Days Until … Christmas … Yup, I said it! I know if you are like me you might be both looking forward to the upcoming festivities but also totally not ready for them. I may plan for Christmas months in advance when it comes to work but the shopping, gift wrapping, and dinner planning I actually enjoy waiting until December to start making those plans. I love seeing the Holiday decorations and really getting into the Christmas spirit.

On To Today’s Advice, Planning and Preparing…

Though we have talked about this in the past, it is an important reminder with the hustle and bustle of the holiday season to remember to schedule your posts.

Not only do you have Holiday Preparations to do, but you also have your normal daily items on the list. So take time to sit down and write some of your posts out, get your blogs done in advance if you can, and get yourself into the Christmas spirit by planning your Christmas and New Years week now. At Personalized Marketing Inc we prefer using Zoho Social, but did you know that many of the social networks have the ability to schedule post out in advance on their site?

Speaking of planning out and the New Year, Personalized Marketing Inc is going to do an Easter blog hop event. I know, Easter… but hey it’s only a few months away. This year we are doing a Cover Hunt event for Authors. Details will be provided via email. Registration will begin right after the New Year, so be thinking of the book you want to use for the event, what prizes you might want to offer and check back for more details. Why You Should Be Using More Than One Social Network

It has been a while since we focused on marketing but it seems that changes have prompted a new post. As many of you may have heard, Google is getting rid of Google+ as of August 2019. Now some of you may not take much notice but others may be wondering what now… This is the very reason why myself and other Marketing Specialist suggest using more than one social media network. Networks, as we have seen with others, can last for decades but many come and go or change their platform to where you just don’t belong, such as the changes to MySpace.

Do not get me wrong if you are in the music industry then MySpace is still a place to be but it really is not designed for other venues anymore. Facebook recently made a big announcement to the way businesses are shown and how it affects users such as you. Twitter made a positive change and increased the number of characters and each network has is focused on specific users. Some networks are fads and as with all fads they will fade away and others just do not make the number of profits needed to continue forward. 

Dealing With The Unexpected 

Having more than one social network is more than just about reaching the users on them it also means that if unexpected and potentially problematic changes take place you do not have to worry about “how am I going to reach viewers now?” You already have a plan in place. Since Google+ is closing its doors does that mean you should stop posting to it between now and the shut-off date? Nope, it only means that you need to adjust your marketing plan and maybe even consider that social network site that you before decided you were too busy to use.

Yes, it is a year away (well almost) but you still need to be adjusting your strategy now. You need to make sure that there is no information shared on it that you do not have elsewhere or at least saved. You need to make sure that any connections you have made there are found on different platforms, (if you are a client of ours then your post are on several other networks already). You may even want to begin transferring your followers and friends to another network. Now if you have a small platform and reach, then it will not take you too long to do this. However, I imagine most of the readers will have months, years and longer than they do not want to lose. So instead of waiting to the last moment, start the transfer process now. 

Take Action Now

Make a plan, schedule out at least 30 minutes to an hour each week to begin the process. There are exactly 291 Days — or — 41 Weeks and 4 Days from the date of this post. If you give yourself an hour each week then that means you have only 41 hours to get it done. However, if you do an hour twice a week then you have 82 hours in which to move the content you do not want to lose. I have not heard as of yet if they will be keeping the content or if it will just disappear.

You might also not be aware of is Google’s URL shortening service is also closing, in March 2019. Personalized Marketing Inc has some shortened URLs using their service and each month, I go in and make note of the current stats and keep a running list of the URLs. Will the shortened URLs eventually create 404 Errors, I cannot say but being a geek, working in marketing and doing SEO I am not taking a chance.

The Real Cost…

I do not generally write about why you might want to hire Personalized Marketing Inc or any other service provider but this week I felt it was important to touch base on this topic.

The Quality Of Coffee

When you go buy coffee or a coffee maker, do you buy the cheaper one hoping that the taste is just as good or that the maker lasts as long? Or do you save time and trouble by buying the better quality coffee and maker? Recently I went with my dad and we had a conversation about coffee (shocker… I know right?). During the chat, we discussed how the coffee I drink cost a little more per pound but I really like the flavor of it. I love how the aroma fills the house and that first sip in the morning is worthy a heartfelt sigh. Sure, I am caving in some because it has become my favorite brand. However, there are other benefits of drinking it as well. I use less of it to get that robust flavor, no burnt coffee taste here. It does not bother my stomach like other brands do, probably because I use half the amount than the other brands. Also, because I use less, it last longer as well. So yes, I am paying about $2.00 more than I would a different brand but in the long run, it equals out or even is cheaper than that other brand.

The Price Of Coffee?

What does the price and quality of coffee have to do with using service providers? In both scenarios, you get what you pay for… If you use a bulk provider (the other brand) then you often find yourself with bulk service quality. Sure you may have saved a few dollars but in the end, you might find yourself facing unexpected problems or cost.

However, if you get the better quality cup you often find additional benefits that you may not have expected. You might find yourself in a new mindset, “my time and money is worth it”. You might find that the quality one is higher priced but also that the customer service is higher quality and that they are more focused on making “YOU” happy and less about giving you the runaround.

Wait… Why Can’t You Have Both!

Now, I am not saying that every “high” priced service is the best option, or that you have to go broke finding the right one… What I am saying is that the one who provides what you need, when you need it and even after you finish working with them, they are still there, you might want to start there. Personalized Marketing Inc is just that type of service provider, we often communicate with past clients, we often take on additional services because it’s what our client needs. Also, we admit when we are wrong or if we have found something better, even if we don’t get any additional perks. We and others like us are here to provide the best possible service without breaking the bank.

Service providers are in the business of providing services to you. Their main goal is to make you happy as best as they can. Does it always work out? No. However, when was the last time you felt so strongly or confidently about your service provider that you told others about them?

Today’s Post Is Going To Be Short & Sweet

We have covered a variety of topics this month … Websites, Hosting, SSL, SEO, Emails, Marketing, and of course scheduling; each one an essential extension of the others. You cannot have a good website without a great hosting service. Your fabulous new site cannot be found without SEO, SEM, and Marketing. Your email campaigns, website, and social media networks rely on marketing. None of these would be possible without scheduling the time to do them.

Being online, at a brick-and-mortar location, operating from a Kiosk, or any way you can have a business or product to offer, means you have to consider how each element affects the other. If you have a fabulous website, awesome product and good hosting, but you do not have SEO or Marketing, how will people find you? Or if they can find you and the hosting is not the best option, will they wait on your site to load or leave to buy the item elsewhere? Maybe you have everything but forgot that all-important SSL, did you know that some sites cannot be viewed on a mobile device without one?

Having the right package is more than just checking the boxes of the items you want, it is also making sure that you have the items you need. Catering or personalizing a package for a client is more than just going “Yes, we can do that” it’s also evaluating and pointing out what YOU might also “NEED”.

It’s interesting when you get to celebrate your actual birthday and your company’s anniversary at the same time. You find yourself thinking about what is important to both you and the business. What core values you have for your own life and how does that compare to the company you run. We are finishing up the Month-Long Anniversary Party and I want to thank each person who has been involved with it. I also want to send a special thank you to God, my family, our clients, and Cindy, because each one is the only reason we have made it for 10 years.

As you may know, I recently went back to College to obtain a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. I must say even though I have only been taking classes for a few short weeks, it has been enlightening. It has also reiterated Personalized Marketing Inc’s statement, “Providing Customized Services Based On Your Needs”. It has also brought focus to YOU. Personalized Marketing Inc has always been a transparent company and the services we offer are built on the clients. We also believe in going above and beyond for those we work with, which yes does often mean learning something new to help satisfy the needs of the client or reaching out to others when needed. 

10 years ago, this summer, Personalized Marketing Inc opened its doors, not because it was planned but because the need existed. I had been asked by friends for help with their marketing needs. Which then later prompted the opening of Personalized Marketing & Promotions. We are based on our clients, our service and want to continue helping those who need it. We have evolved from doing basic marketing items and small websites; to creating full scale marketing packages and beautiful eCommerce sites. In the beginning, we marketed the company as much as we did our clients. Now, we market the clients more than the company itself. Is this the corporate way to do it? Nope, but it is the right way to do business. We have a choice as a service provider to either remember who we work with or to pay attention to that “bottom line”. What is SEO

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the use of keywords, images, meta tags, links and content that search engines use to determine your ranking. SEO is also website submission to those Search Engines and the use of Marketing. Think of SEO as a roadmap, maps tell us which turns to make to get to a destination. Search Engines tell users what destination to take based on their search.

Why is SEO important

SEO is important because if you do not have it, then you will rank low on the Search Engines. If people cannot find you or they do not know who you are but are looking for what you offer, and you are not listed within the first couple pages, then they are likely to go elsewhere. SEO not only leads to new people finding you it also helps your current followers know where all they can find you.

How come SEO takes so long?

Search Engine Optimization is not a short burst of activity, it takes time and dedication to get ranked, it takes time for the Search Engines to populate changes. Yes, there are ways you can ‘pay’ to be ranked rapidly at the top of a Search Engine, however, when you stop paying to be there, without the right efforts, you will fade from the top pages of the search. SEO if done right takes time, it takes making sure that your basics are covered, such as image names. When you put a new image up are you taking the time to name it something relevant, are you giving it a title? The same can be said for links and content, is it relevant to the page name, did you add those all important ‘headers’? Headers, bolding and italicizing are not just there for looks, they not only grab the readers attention, but they also tell the search engines information as well.

Celebrating Our 10th Anniversary in August!

Sorry so late with the blog… We have been working hard to bring you the new site version of Personalized Marketing Inc, which I am happy to say launches August 1st! I have also returned to school to obtain my Masters in Business with a certification in Marketing, it’s been a great experience so far.

Today’s topic … Websites!

I know I recently did an article series not long ago that mentioned websites in them, however, with us launching our new design and some bumps along the road, it seems pertinent. Websites require reliable hosting, they require access to dedicated servers, they most generally use a database and often have areas where security is a must; which if you do not have an SSL you could find yourself falling in the rankings!

Cindy and I built Personalized Marketing Inc’s new site on the content management platform (CMS) WordPress, so we have all of those needs mentioned before and sometimes additional headaches. If you have ever used WordPress then you know of plugins, which are great when they work but when they do not it can be a headache. Plugins, unless you make them, are generally taken care of via third party, if a core update conflict with the plugin, it can and will stop working right. If that happens then your entire site will come down. Recently, I have noticed several plugins that worked beautifully for years stop working correctly or adding unnecessary id tags. The cleaner your website code the better it works.

WordPress generally sends out an update at least once a month and lately several times a month. Turning on Auto Updates in your hosting is an option for keeping the site updated, however, if you have one of those pesky “non-compatible” moments you just found yourself with that headache we mentioned. Which can and has brought websites completely down and if you rely on that site for your business, well you now have a bigger problem. So, if you are not willing to pay to have someone go in and care for your website, then you have to learn to do it yourself. What is your time worth?

Our Anniversary!

It is hard for me to imagine that Personalized Marketing Inc is 10 years old… It does not seem like that much time has come to pass. In the past 10 years, we have had many changes but one thing never will, we are a transparent company that is focused on providing customized services based on the client’s needs and wants. We are a Faith based company that cares about the people we work with and we want to help them thrive by providing the best service we can.

We mark the birthday of the company each year in August for two main reasons: one it is my birthday month and two because I like giving gifts during my birthday month! Normally, I run one discount special all month long, however, this year we are going to be giving out multiple gifts to celebrate. We are also going to draw one special surprise during the month as well.
