Do Not Just Settle

Category:Consultants,Dee Carver,Personalized Marketing Inc,PM Inc Tags :

It has been a while since my last post … but that is because I was finishing up my MBA. Now that college is over, I expect to get back to a regular schedule. Some of the future posts will be about what I learned in school, some about marketing, and other topics or thoughts that come across. You will also see blogs by Cindy, #PMInc’s manager, about her thoughts on various topics including those in business.

I had always heard the expression “Do what you know”, however, when I began Personalized Marketing Inc in 2008 there were many things that I did not know. My journey began as an author who had a dream about a dress. I could not draw the dress, so I decided to write about it. I had written poems and diaries in my youth so describing a dress in words seemed the right thing to do. Then the description changed, it went from talking about a dress, to describing the woman wearing it, the room around her, the emotions and why she was there. In the end, I ended up with a scene and did not know how I got there. I showed my neighbor and friend at the time what I had done, and she encouraged me to write the rest, to only stop when the description stopped. It was then that a man appeared next to the woman and their story began.

I had written a book, even ended up with a publisher, it was at that moment I learned about marketing, editing, and all the other various steps into putting a book out there. Thankfully, I had a wonderful friend who was already a published author helping me along the way. I had some bad experiences, especially being new I made quite a few. Everyone knows the next part… Then I was given a webpage and I found other author sites and wanted to know how they were made. I was hooked! I began devouring the different lines of code and seeing how the pieces connected together. At that moment I went from an author to beginning a web developer. While working on my own promotions, friends began to ask me to help them and one even suggested I could run a business doing this. Thus, in the summer of 2008 Personalized Marketing Inc was born.

I didn’t know everything when I started, learned some from friends, others by trial and error and eventually I ended up going to college. On my birthday in 2013, I found myself returning to school. Sure, I had contemplated right after getting my GED but I ended up not going then. Looking back, I thought it was the circumstances but today I realize it was because I had not found my calling yet. I cannot tell you what I would have went to school for back then, probably something practical, maybe even in auto. After starting my Associates program, I took an aptitude test to determine what career was best suited for me. I was very happy to see that I tested into the very career I already had; it was like a confirmation that I had done the right thing all those years ago.

When I began school, I had only planned on getting a Bachelor’s degree, thankfully my advisor suggested I break it down and get the Associates as well. You know a way of celebrating a milestone on my journey. I ended up going for a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology with an Advanced Software Development certificate. Four years later, mom was gone, and I was tired. I think that maybe at that moment my time in college was over. However, a year later, I found myself enrolling in the Master’s program. Life had returned and the path waiting for me opened up again. It is now 2020 and I have a Master of Business with a concentration in marketing. In the 7 years it took, I had eye surgery, a hysterectomy, some other challenges, the loss of my mom and the reminder that life does go on.

If I had stuck to the saying “Do what you know” then I would not have gotten to where I am today. If I had followed that saying, I would have probably been content in life but I do not think I would have been happy. I guess the focus behind this post is to not just settle for what you can do but find out what you can’t do but want to do and grab it.

Resolutions

Category:Articles By Dee Carver,Dee Carver,Personalized Marketing Inc,PM Inc Tags :

Did you make a New Year’s resolution? I didn’t, however I did realize last night I only have 6 more months left before I have my Masters In Business with a Marketing Saturation. I was working with Cindy when I looked at my schedule and came to the realization I am almost finished. This morning grabbing a cup of coffee the conversation replayed in my head and I realized it was the prompt for today’s post.

What comes next?

Now that I am almost done, what’s next (hence the resolution), we are making some plans for the company and marketing changes for our clients. We are looking at new venues to promote their books, whether the post we are putting out insight a reaction and then action. We are also looking at the graphics going out and whether they carry a message of their own.

In my last blog I asked if your posts Cognitive, Affective, Or Conative? I also had to ask the same question for the posts we are putting out. The weekly book hooks get good responses, there are comments about having more questions and being curious, which are a good thing. However, does that translate into sales? For a book does the excerpt tease the readers enough to click and grab a copy or read more? Does the excerpt end with an action for the reader to want more? Excerpts are a beautiful thing and can provide the desire to want to know more but there remember do not give away the whole story.

Reasoning

Then I looked at my own books and came to a very real realization that I do not market them or the company no where near enough. Which prompted another change coming for 2020, spending time on the business and my books.

Resolution

So, how am I going to do right by our clients but also add in marketing for #PMInc and my books? Tools! Personalized Marketing Inc has been using Zoho Social for quite some time now. Many of our clients are also using it and it comes with a scheduling option. However, it also has other benefits such as optimal posting times, editing content for each of the networks, and the ability to monitor those networks. Then I can compare our company’s network growth based on what we posted a year ago, 6 months ago, or even last month to what we are currently putting out, inside the same platform.

Granted I will either be doing #PMInc marketing either early in the morning or at the end of the day, because our clients matter more. It is more important for us to share their material than it is to post our own. So this morning after sending out social media post for our clients, I then sat down to write the blog.

Putting our clients first is and always will be the Year Long resolution for Personalized Marketing Inc.

Christmas Posting Is Here

Category:Consultants,Dee Carver,Personalized Marketing Inc,Real Marketing for Organic Growth,Website Design Tags :

It’s that time of the year for last minute shopping, carolers caroling, the hustle and bustle and of course getting ready because Christmas is almost here. As I sit here and write this blog, I can hear Christmas music playing from my son’s room and it’s pretty cool. For my home, we are anticipating family coming, spending the holiday sharing. It also means planning on posting and knowing when to send them out. As with each season the time and days are shifting and will shift again after the New Year and when the seasons change. Understanding when to post is just as important, if not more than knowing what to post.

How do you know when to post?

Understanding your network and website traffic is the best way. Getting in the back-end and see what days people came or interacted with what you shared, comparing it to previous months and years. Looking at not just Google Analytics but all analytics wherever you can get them. Now, a lot of social platform tools have analytics included but it’s always best to go to the source. You will get better details and can refine the time that you want to look at.

What to post?

What to post is always a challenge, do you only post your business, products, services, or do you mix in a little personal or funny occasionally. Well that is going to depend on you and where you are sharing too. If it’s a business page, then you are going to do more focused posting. However, people want to know who they are buying from and if you are an author, what makes you tick. People love to share their thoughts and opinions, and if they love a product or hate it, you can be sure that they are telling people. So, to understand what to post about other than ‘work’, check out your group’s demographics. Are they into dogs, cats, science? Then plan on post that are about those topics.

Did you recently buy something new for your home and love it? Share it! Let people know what kind of person you are by the taste you have for your own home. (Speaking of which, I know two people who need to do that…) if you want to ultimately skip the ‘getting to know you’ part, then focus on their other topics. Ask them if they have tried something, encourage them to share to your profile/pages by sharing something they have put out. If you have a physical business, then share your gust posts, tag them and let them know that their thoughts mattered.

Need Help?

Today’s blog ended up being a little longer than expected but I guess that’s due to planning holiday posts for clients. If you find yourself in need of help planning those post, or wanting a fresh look for your website then please shoot us an email or give us a call. We would be happy to see how we can help you.

Sorry it’s been a couple of weeks since I posted, busy time of the year and nasty sick, could be to blame but ultimately, we’ve been spending our time on client items. Sorry we missed out on posting for CyberWeek, however, if you mention Cyber Week and Christmas when you contact us, then we will give you the 15% off discount until the end of the year.

Regression Analysis In Social Media Marketing

Category:Cindy W,Consultants,Personalized Marketing Inc,PM Inc,Real Marketing for Organic Growth,Website Design Tags :

Wow, it feels like forever since I wrote a blog post about marketing and this week’s blog is a little different than normal. I had previously written and saved a post about email platforms and their pitfalls, however that changed. Hang on tight, I’m having a ‘geek’ moment with this topic and yes, I had Cindy edit it since I get a little ‘uhm’ focused…

While doing some research in class, I came across a definition that resonated with me, that I immediately applied to Social Marketing: regression analysis in business. Personally, I found a simple definition that breaks it down and makes it easy to understand. According to Hunkar Ozyasar (2019) "Regression is a statistical tool used to understand and quantify the relation between two or more variables. Regressions range from simple models to highly complex equations. The two primary uses for regression in business are forecasting and optimization. In addition to helping managers predict such things as future demand for their products, regression analysis helps fine-tune manufacturing and delivery processes."

I am always trying to optimize the results that we provide for our clients, one example would be their social media marketing. Recently, the same shift that I have seen happen over the past 11 years is taking place, optimal posting time changes. By analyzing the data, I am better able to determine when the best time to post is, which puts the customers information about their products or services out at the peak times when their followers would see it, which impacts the delivery of network posting. This posting shift happens throughout the year and will shift again before 2019 is over.

At Personalized Marketing Inc, we do analytics on social networks that we monitor and then use that information to determine how well we are doing our jobs. The information is also used to base what days and times are best for posting. It can also provide useful information about network peak time shifts. Now those who live on their social channels probably won’t notice that there is a time the network is slower than others. They may also not notice that some days are more active than other days, but for those who are using social networks to reach current and future connections, they just might.

The time of year, the season, the holidays, current events and even weather can play a ‘huge’ roll in whether that awesome post you wrote gets seen. Just because it sits on your timeline or on your business page does not mean that it reached the target audience. So, let’s use Facebook after work… Just like your target audience you get a ton of notifications of things you have missed. Now you might click every single one and check them all out but while you are that notorious feed is still going strong. Or if you are on your phone, you click that notification, check it out, then bam you are scrolling through another page. What happened to all those other notifications, if you notice the number count is gone! They are still there but the reminder is missing until a new notification comes back. Sure, your phone might have told you that you had 25 notifications, but you went down the pathway towards somewhere else following just one. Guess what? So did your target audience. Paying attention to when, what channel, what content and how to reach your target audience is all hidden inside that important data. Knowing what’s trending now is important, knowing your networks history is just as important!

I hope you found the blog useful and for those other entrepreneurs check out Small Business at Chron, they have some great information.

Behind the Scenes with Cindy

Category:Cindy W,Consultants,Manager,Personalized Marketing Inc,PM Inc Tags :

Dee decided to take a break for this blog so we figured I would pop in and talk to you. Who’s this? You may have read Dee talking about her manager, Cindy. That’s ME! I joined Personalized Marketing Inc. a little over a year and a half ago and it’s been a great experience expanding my horizons. So, here is a little about what I have been doing.

Knowing your audience/client, what’s trending, and what sells are a few of your favorite things in marketing yourself. Dee and I worked together to revisit these 3 aspects regularly to keep our clients as well as ourselves up to date in the market. Our first huge project was giving the company a new look in redoing the website. It took a lot of ‘what do we want’ along with ‘what does our audience expect’ to create the look you see today. Rolling it out was well worth all fun and hard work put into it.

Finding images that speak of you and your company are not always easy and you want to avoid using images that tend to pop up all over the internet. Yes, you can use some since there are ways to search images, but you need a staple image that speaks YOU! The cover image on Personalized Marketing Inc’s site is just that. The image I speak of is the mobile phone with the chess pieces – for us it speaks strategy, mobility and flexibility. Which brings me to other things I have been doing with the company – Digital Art. That cover image was done by me. Something I love to dabble in but finding myself doing more of here. (Dee is fighting spreadsheets on her own, well for now anyway)

If a client has specific requests, I am more then willing to see what I can do to find what they need. If it can’t be found? I will create it if I can. Currently I am working on a site with such a request that I even took a trip to the beach to capture some needed images and video.

Recently, we advised a client that with the latest trends of her books, she may want to consider updating her covers on a series she has done well with. I was excited when she asked me to do them. Taking those who have purchased the book in the past, the category the books where trending in, and what other like books where hot sellers we came up with a plan and they came out great.

Oh, and I don’t stop there. Dee knows just how much I love to read. Seriously, I do love reading. My specialty in reading that I am a word by word reader. If there is a mistake, I will trip over it. So, now I have been doing editing work for the company – from websites, to posts, to books.

As you can see Personalized Marketing Inc is very versatile. We strive to know our clients and their audience, keep watch and assist above and beyond to keep them trending, and we work together to market you.

Onto Today’s Topic

Your Expectations & The Importance of Taking You Time

As Cindy Personalized Marketing Inc’s business manager says, “It’s the end of the 1st Quarter, where are you at, where did you expect to be, and what do you have to change?” If you are like many of us, the first quarter stats are where we will find these answers. Marketing, just like life requires change, so we must be open to it and look for the opportunities. One great place to determine where these opportunities might be found, is your social network feeds and see what the top stories are for the day.

Another area to look for potential change is where you sell your products. Does your product image stand out? Is the description both accurate and SEO rich? What about how it looks on mobile devices? Websites aren’t the only place that you need to be checking if you are responsive. One example would be authors, there are hundreds of thousands of books out there for readers. Then you have e-readers such as Kindle or Nook, both of which have a different layout than the computer browser version. You also must consider the mobile device they are reading on, is it a tablet or cellphone? Did you know that the amount of description being displayed is different for each of the platforms? Thankfully there are tools out there that help us see the different layouts.

Give yourself a couple of days and just spend it looking at the different products you offer and how they are being displayed to the world.

The Importance of Taking You Time

As the weather continues to get warmer, the need to go outside increases. We want to bask in the sunlight, draw in it’s warmth and feel the warmer breeze on our faces. As you may have noticed in our last blog, I am suffering from Spring Fever. I cannot wait to go outside, unplug from everything, dig in the dirt and work in my garden. Earlier this week we mowed our lawn for the first time this year and it was a great feeling. I didn’t have to think about what I was doing, just got out there and did it.

Here in lies a problem … I am not the only one out there excited about being outdoors, so are a lot of other people, and that could also include your focus groups. So, what do we do about this growing change in the habits of those we market too? We schedule posts around when their online. Stop, take in your surroundings, take time to smell the flowers, fire up the grill and share it with our followers. Being on social networks is all about being social. Putting up pictures of bunnies, flowers and sun kissed lakes are things that creates a sigh of peace and probably the people that are following you as well.

So go take some you time, use it to see what’s going on in the world around you, find some new inspiration and give yourself a chance to meander down the isle or through the park. Have a Happy & Blessed Easter!

Spring Marketing Flower - Personalized Marketing Inc

Spring Marketing

Yay! Spring Is Here!!!

We have a few things to celebrate, #PMInc’s #CoverHunt Contest is just around the corner… April 1st… and we have some great authors participating in the event. We also have a nice Grand Prize gift and some smaller gift baskets to offer. My first book, La Roe’s, is a part of the event and after a decade of waiting, it is finally being rewritten and will be available for Pre-Order. Business is going well, and our clients as always are fabulous! Click the banner below to join before signups close.  ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓

Also, as you may have noticed the tone of the blog has changed some over the past several months, partly because I began taking courses for an M.B.A. with a marketing concentration and I am sharing some of the information I have learned throughout my courses. Some of it is because of what we have going on with work, and some of the blogs because someone asked us to write one about it. So, as I write this blog, I am thinking about what useful information I can share and how it pertains to this exact moment.

Spring Marketing Flower - Personalized Marketing Inc

This week’s blog is about, yup you guessed it, Spring! At this time of year, it is a good time to reevaluate what you are doing, where you want to go and how you plan on getting there. We are nearing the end of March, the first quarter of the year and as the weather gets warmer outside, what projects we are going to do. This year, I am blessed enough to have a place where I can plant a garden with my grandchildren. The idea of getting outside and digging in the dirt has this geek going ‘Yippie!’ so as I begin to think of the work involved and what we want to plant, it has inspired a blog about Spring Marketing.

Spring marketing is more than just posting images about Spring being here, it’s also realizing that your target audiences have been just as cooped up as you have been. They are looking forward to getting outside more, maybe riding bikes, planting flowers, or just soaking up some much-needed sun. No matter what their plans are, the times they are online are going to change drastically. To understand better when they will be around to read those great posts you’ve been making you have to know your audience demographics and begin to calculate when to shift your posting times.

Hopefully, you have been reading some of our articles about analytics and know where to view at the very least the basics. If not, now is the time! Do NOT wait until April before you start working on knowing where, when and what to post. DO IT NOW!

Hopefully, you and your marketing company have been planning your spring marketing for a couple of months now. If not, then schedule that appointment today.

Spring, just like any other season has its own marketing niches and if you are not planning around them then you are missing out on some major opportunities. (Notice what is being advertised on TV, in Newspapers, over the Radio, they are all SPRING focused.) The big advertising agencies know that people are feeling the urge to get outside and beat the ‘cabin fever’ blues and you can either ride along the marketing trail or fight to stay where you are.

Wow!

Category:Articles By Dee Carver,Manager,Personalized Marketing Inc,PM Inc Tags :

So sitting here with Cindy, Personalized Marketing Inc’s manager, I am thinking about what today’s post should be about. A few weeks ago, life threw some serious curve balls and I found myself relying on Automation. Now we know how I feel about automating anything, I’m not a huge fan… Marketing, websites, newsletters, emails and anything thing you are putting out there, requires a personal touch. However, I learned a valuable lesson recently. Automation is not a bad thing. Its pretty much like any other piece of technology. It is what you make of it.

Granted, I schedule posts in advance and rely on automation to send them out. I plan client social media marketing material and use tools, such as Zoho Social, to send them out. However, it was not until recently that I embraced that tried and true form of ‘learning’ called ‘duh’. I spend each day planning out what we are putting on different social media networks and recently began using Google Calendar (Thanks to Cindy) for Personalized Marketing Inc items. I love my checklist and I want to see everything checked off by the end of the day. However, I was spending varying amounts of time each morning writing the same thing daily. By implementing daily and weekly tasks into the calendar, I spend less time planning and more time doing. I even found that spreadsheets have been saving me a ton of time looking stuff up by having things organized in a way that I can easily sort through.

I guess the focus of today’s ‘Wow’ is that 10 years later, I am still learning better ways to be more productive and offer more focused, quality time for our clients.

New Year … New Marketing? – Cover Hunt Event

Category:Events,Personalized Marketing,Personalized Marketing Inc,PM Inc,Real Marketing for Organic Growth Tags :

New Year … New Marketing?

So, it’s that time again… time to decide whether your marketing efforts from 2018 worked, didn’t work, or not sure either way…

If you are like us, we have been collecting stats all year long and January marks the time to compare them, see what months you did better in and what months you didn’t. It is also a good time to look at the days, hours, and content you are posting. By understanding your stats not just from the social media networks but also your own website, you will have a better understanding about those that not just follow you but interact with what you are putting out there. If you happen to have a brand-new social network account, then you may not have any stats to collect on the network but hopefully, you have been keeping track of your post in a social networking platform tool, such as Zoho. You can also download or request an export of your post on various social networks. We prefer Zoho because even with a brand-new network after a month of posting, it does provide suggested dates and times to post.

Now that you have your stats, how do you understand them? Comparison from one quarter to the next can help. You can see by looking at last January’s post what days worked better and what times were people more likely to see them. Remember that the month, day, time, season, weather and other variables can affect how well a post may or may not do. Just because the weather was beautiful last year at this time, does not mean that it will be this year, take the upcoming snow storm we are expecting. We do not always get significant amounts of snow currently of year, sometimes we even get comfortably warm weather. So, when comparing your statistics consider looking at each month.

Now that you have looked at the numbers, what’s next? Time to post on those peak days and times, even if it’s 4:00 PM in the afternoon on a Thursday. However, you want to also post on the days and times you would like for your viewers to be on, (sounds like a newsletter huh). Once you have faithful followers, they will notice what times you’re on and even check out what’s new with you.
