Coffee Time Romance Staffer – Renee

You know them, you love them as much as we do! Welcome the Coffee Time Romance Staffers!
So we asked them some questions on how they take care of themselves.

Visit with the Coffee Time Staffers August 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, and 24th.

Are you glued to technology and if so, what do you do to disconnect?

I'm glued to my computer at home but am only on my phone when I'm out of the house and stuck in a line somewhere. I would say I read to disconnect, but that involves technology to do since I'm 98% eBooks. Does watching Asian Period Dramas count even though it's via streaming on TV? If it does, then that and watching anime.

What do you do to unwind?

Crochet. I'm in the middle of making a giant poncho that will come in handy for the really cold winter we have coming.

Anything special you do to treat yourself like maybe a favorite meal each month?

My treat is cookies or some kind of apple pastry (apply fritter, apple turnover, apple danish). I like to limit my sugar intake since my lifestyle is pretty sedentary, but every so often I indulge in a box of cookies or a few apple pastries.

Do you have a hobby that isn’t involved in what you do each day?

Crocheting. I'll either be doing actual crocheting, finding patterns of future projects I want to tackle, or watching YouTube videos of pattern walkthroughs.

Everyone is concerned about being healthy while working on a computer, what do you do to try and improve your health?

Get up and move around. Also, drinking lots of water, which means heading downstairs to refill my thermos and getting up to head to the bathroom. So that gets me up out of my seat. Usually, once I get up, I'll do a bunch of other stuff that has me moving around before I sit back down and get back to writing.

While working is there anything special you do help ease your mental stress or physical aches?

For a mental break, I have a collection of videos featuring repetitive fractal and 3D patterns and such. Just something to stare at that requires no thought or emotional investment. My favorites are insta/wannerstedt, insta/arbenl1berateme, and insta/rogerkilimanjaro. Any of their videos are great for just detaching and relaxing, which helps to alleviate the physical aches as well.

What advice would you want to give others if you could?

Celebrate every step of the journey toward your end goal because every step is a triumph.

Renee is a fantasy fan of the highest degree. She loves cartoons, anime, manga, and movies. Her manga collection can rival most bookstores, her comic collection could sink a small ship and her book collection needs its own storage unit. And those are the physical books. The advent of ereaders and ebooks has made it easier to hide her collecting obsession, though her bank account knows the truth.

Everything is an inspiration for Renee. If you’re around her for too long, you (or part of your life) will end up in one of her books. She’s a fan of trying most everything once because the road to liking something means trying it first. That approach goes for her writing as well.

If it’s interesting, she’ll read it. If it’s entertaining, she’ll watch it. If it’s good, she’ll eat it. And if it makes a favorable lasting impression, she’ll do it all over again. Madness is her method and random chaos is merely her imagination at work.

Coffee Time Romance Staffer – Franny

You know them, you love them as much as we do! Welcome the Coffee Time Romance Staffers!
So we asked them some questions on how they take care of themselves.

Visit with the Coffee Time Staffers August 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, and 24th.

Are you glued to technology and if so, what do you do to disconnect?

Yes, and I seldom disconnect and do much else. Sometimes I’ll garden or spend my time organizing my messy house, but mostly I am connected and glued to it. An author’s lot in life, I guess.

What do you do to unwind?

I like to surf the net and spend a lot of time watching tv or hanging around with my grandkids. They sure keep me hopping, it’s true, but I find being with them is a joy so I guess that’s what I’d call my unwinding moments.

Anything special you do to treat yourself like maybe a favorite meal each month?

I sometimes treat myself with an ice cream or a couple of lottery scratch and win tickets. It all depends on my mood at the time.

Do you have a hobby that isn’t involved in what you do each day? (Painting, gardening, knitting, biking, etc)

I do stained glass, which takes up a ton of space and makes the house look like a bomb hit it. I also write, write, write to calm the storm of characters in my brain.

Everyone is concerned about being healthy while working on a computer, what do you do to try and improve your health? (5 min breaks, standing some while working, walking during the morning, limit time on computer, etc)

I go for walks or head to the casino for more techy fun. That part may not improve my health, but I sure enjoy it and have a lot of walking around the casino searching for my husband. lol He moves from machine to machine and I usually have a hard time finding him which means I walk a lot in the building. Other than that, I spend a lot of time cleaning and chasing the new puppy as well as the grandkids.

While working is there anything special you do help ease your mental stress or physical aches? (listen to music, stand while working, etc)

I’m disabled so my work is on my computer. I also create book covers and edit books, which I enjoy. I do make sure that I get up and do chores as well so I’m not sitting for hours at a time working on my projects.

What advice would you want to give others if you could?

No matter what you are doing, if you love it, use wisdom and make sure you take care of your health first. When illness strikes, it takes away from the pleasure of technology. I do try to behave, but being an Aries, I have a difficult time with that. Lol

Franny Armstrong is a mother of three and a grandmother of four. Her husband supports her imagination, and has the patience of a saint. She’s been writing since she was a child, creating plays to act out in front of the neighbourhood children. She charged them five cents admission to join her in the family garage for the play.

Since 2002, after a serious breakdown, Franny had to express herself on the computer since she couldn’t speak, everything coming out gibberish at that time. She’s slowly healed to the point that she functions fairly well. Writing was the best medicine for her, and still is.

Franny loves to write about rainforests and the Caribbean, rather than about cities. Her characters are well rounded and share her wacky sense of humour. Writing is her life!

#PMInc 11th Anniversary Guest Author:
Pamela S Thibodeaux

When I was invited to write for Personalized Marketing Inc’s blog, I wondered what on earth could I say that you haven’t already heard or, for that matter, something I haven’t already said and/or written about. So I thought I’d just recap some of my most valuable writing advice. Here goes….

Read. Read extensively in your genre and out. Take note of phrases & descriptions that capture your imagination or make your heart sing and mind race. I’ve yet to meet a writer who isn’t an avid reader!

Write. Doesn’t matter if it’s daily, weekly, or 2-3 days a month, just make time to write consistently. Don’t worry if it’s dribble to begin with just write. Whether you’re at a desk, the kitchen table, the library, or a coffee shop, get in the habit of sitting in your writing space and putting words on paper (or computer, or notebook, or i-pad)…You get my drift. Forget the rules and write the book you want to read! You can always check for publisher guidelines and edit/revise your project to fit, but those first drafts can be whatever you want them to be!

Edit. Most projects need a minimum of 3 edits…. Initial where you layer in descriptions, the five senses, etc. Second pass where you check for plot holes and pacing.  Third round where you check for grammar, punctuation, etc. Make sure you take at least two weeks to a month between edits! If you don’t, chances are you’ll miss mistakes that could cost you a contract or precious time in edits after the contract. While you’re letting this one cool, start another! Keep several projects in the works at all times so you don’t worry this one to death.

Query/Submit. At some point you’ve got to turn that baby loose. Even if your initial submission is to a critique partner or group, don’t let fear stop you from getting the feedback necessary to help you grow as a writer and produce the best work you can. Read the last two sentences above – they apply here too. Keep writing while you wait to hear back from your submission.

Revise, Re-submit, Resale. This applies mostly to articles and essays but sometimes you can even revise/rewrite a story and sell it elsewhere. Make sure you abide by any current or previous contract limitations and if someone doesn’t normally take reprints, be sure to let them know the extent of changes you’ve made that add a whole new twist to the version you’re querying about or submitting to them.

Promote. Okay you’ve sold a book or two or a dozen articles. There will be no (or very few) sales, reviews, or new opportunities, if you don’t let people know! Set up a website, Facebook, Twitter, and Amazon Author Page. Spend a few hours a week building your fan base and readership. When you do a book signing or speaking engagement, ask for the name and address (email too) of everyone who buys a book! This is your readership. Ask to add them to your mailing/newsletter list. Don’t bombard them but keep in touch on a regular basis, whether that is monthly, quarterly or even annually.

These tips and hints apply to the craft of writing but here are a few more….

Keep good records. Writing is a business and even unpublished authors can claim business expenses such as office supplies, ink, business cards, etc. Check with a CPA or tax preparer and don’t miss out on these valuable deductions especially when you begin to make money!

Take Care of Yourself. Sometimes life throws us a curve ball or hand grenade and we have a hard time focusing on writing. Don’t worry about your career at this point. Take the time you need to recover and/or regroup and start over. Real writers never quit. We may take an extended leave of absence but at some point, we always return to our passion.

And last but certainly not least…

Don’t Quit! Writing is a gift and a talent given to you by God. Don’t hide your gift or bury your talent.

Blurb: Rancher Craig Harris and veterinarian Tamera Collins clash from the moment they meet.  Innocence is pitted against arrogance as tempers rise and passions ignite to form a love as pure as the finest gold, fresh from the crucible and as strong as steel.  Thrown together amid tragedy and unsated passion, Tamera and Craig share a strong attraction that neither accepts as the first stages of love. Torn between desire and dislike, they must make peace with their pasts and God in order to open up to the love blossoming between them.  It is a love that nothing can destroy when they come to understand that only when hearts are tempered, minds are opened and wills are softened can man discern the will of God for his life.

#PMInc 11 Years Anniversary!

Category:#PMInc 11th Anniversary,Dee Carver,Guest Author,Guest Blogger,Personalized Marketing Inc,PM Inc Tags :

As you may have noticed our blog is a couple of days early… that’s because tomorrow is August 1st and we are turning 11 years! Wow can you believe it has already been 11 years since Personalized Marketing Inc opened it’s doors? I know I can’t! It has been a wild and amazing journey and one that I am very blessed to be a part of.

It seems like not long ago that my friend Raven suggested offering what I was doing for friends as paid services. In the beginning we were known as Personalized Marketing & Promotions, (kind of redundant, I know). Then later after a bit more SEO and little less wordiness, promotions was dropped, Excerpts & Promotions Facebook Page was created and the company became Personalized Marketing Inc.

Exciting New Changes

This year has marked a few different changes for our Anniversary/Birthday Event …We have also opened our blog this year to guest authors. We have invited a few of our friends to come in and share their thoughts on Taking Care Of You, which as you know has been a topic of ours a lot as of late. So, make sure to check both our main site and blogger for these extraordinary guests.

A new blog will be posted Wednesday and Friday of each week during the month of August.
#PMInc's 11th Anniversary Blogs

We also have a new domain name coming https://pminc.tech (We love it! Don’t you!). The decision came about to match the company’s hashtag #PMInc, which if you Google it, you can find pretty much everywhere. Good job on branding the hashtag but the abbreviation required a domain name to match. We are super excited to start sharing it everywhere, stay tuned for the exciting announcement.

We love our clients and would not be here without them, as a thank you we offer a 10% client referral bonus. This year’s 11% discount is good for new items but also renewals as well. You can either email us with the Coupon Code (#PMInc 11th Anniversary) or use the form with the code conveniently added for you.

Pamela S Thibodeaux

Pamela, welcome to PM Inc's Blogger, we are happy to have you here. Please tell us a little about yourself?

Thank you so much for having me!

I am a mother, grandmother and in my day job, a Licensed Insurance Agent. I sell home, life and Medicare Insurance. I’ve been writing for nearly 40 yrs. and published for 20+.

What do you find is the hardest part about writing and promoting yourself?
Finding the time to write consistently and the money to market/promote effectively.

What do you do to unwind?

READ. Mostly. I also like to camp and fish, walk and dance. Sit with a cup of coffee or glass of wine and bask in nature – whether that is at home, on a beach or in the mountains. My favorite place in the whole world to visit is Bandera, Texas.

How do you make time for 'You'?

By doing those things mentioned above, even if that means leaving the computer behind – which I have been known to do for a long weekend.

I noticed that you are an author, editor, promotions expert, speaker and life coach, how do you keep up with yourself?

Who says I do? LOL! Seriously the thing that helps me juggle everything is being organized. I have a monthly planner & a ‘To Do’ pad on my desk and I use them  faithfully!

Do you enjoy writing articles or books more?
I simply enjoy writing. Articles for a local publication are quick, easy and pay well. Short stories are also quick and relatively easy to write but not always quick to sell. I write the blog posts for the company I work for. I just love to write! Give me a topic or an interview candidate and I enjoy gathering what I need and presenting it in a fun yet informative way.

Do you have a preferred genre?
I write Edgy Inspirational but read just about anything Romance. I also read a lot of spiritual non-fiction.

Audio books, love them or hate them? Do you feel that they do your stories justice?

I enjoy audio books on occasion. If done well, an audio book is the perfect way to reach broader audiences. I recently had my first published novel, Tempered Hearts released in audio and I’m as thrilled with it as I am with any new book or any previously published work I re-release in a new venue. Audio books are beginning to garner larger and larger pieces of the overall publishing pie so I would never disparage an author having their book(s) done in audio.

Pamela, I personally must say how impressed I am at the mention of God and Blessings on both your site and emails. Did you have a personal experience you wanted to share?

I began writing in 1982 – romance; plain and simple romance. In 1989 I recommitted my life to Christ and committed my writing to Him. My faith is what has pulled me through some of the toughest times in my life, including my husband’s death 10 yrs. ago. I am nothing without my faith….well I wouldn’t say ‘nothing’ but so much stronger, more patient and more loving when I stay connected to the source of Love – for me that’s God.

Thank you once again for being here with us today and we look forward to having you back during the month long 11th Anniversary Celebration here at Personalized Marketing Inc.

Thank you so much for having me and CONGRATULATIONS on your 11-year Anniversary! I certainly wish you the best of luck and God’s blessings for another successful 11 yrs and many more after that!

Behind the Scenes with Cindy

Category:Cindy W,Consultants,Manager,Personalized Marketing Inc,PM Inc Tags :

Dee decided to take a break for this blog so we figured I would pop in and talk to you. Who’s this? You may have read Dee talking about her manager, Cindy. That’s ME! I joined Personalized Marketing Inc. a little over a year and a half ago and it’s been a great experience expanding my horizons. So, here is a little about what I have been doing.

Knowing your audience/client, what’s trending, and what sells are a few of your favorite things in marketing yourself. Dee and I worked together to revisit these 3 aspects regularly to keep our clients as well as ourselves up to date in the market. Our first huge project was giving the company a new look in redoing the website. It took a lot of ‘what do we want’ along with ‘what does our audience expect’ to create the look you see today. Rolling it out was well worth all fun and hard work put into it.

Finding images that speak of you and your company are not always easy and you want to avoid using images that tend to pop up all over the internet. Yes, you can use some since there are ways to search images, but you need a staple image that speaks YOU! The cover image on Personalized Marketing Inc’s site is just that. The image I speak of is the mobile phone with the chess pieces – for us it speaks strategy, mobility and flexibility. Which brings me to other things I have been doing with the company – Digital Art. That cover image was done by me. Something I love to dabble in but finding myself doing more of here. (Dee is fighting spreadsheets on her own, well for now anyway)

If a client has specific requests, I am more then willing to see what I can do to find what they need. If it can’t be found? I will create it if I can. Currently I am working on a site with such a request that I even took a trip to the beach to capture some needed images and video.

Recently, we advised a client that with the latest trends of her books, she may want to consider updating her covers on a series she has done well with. I was excited when she asked me to do them. Taking those who have purchased the book in the past, the category the books where trending in, and what other like books where hot sellers we came up with a plan and they came out great.

Oh, and I don’t stop there. Dee knows just how much I love to read. Seriously, I do love reading. My specialty in reading that I am a word by word reader. If there is a mistake, I will trip over it. So, now I have been doing editing work for the company – from websites, to posts, to books.

As you can see Personalized Marketing Inc is very versatile. We strive to know our clients and their audience, keep watch and assist above and beyond to keep them trending, and we work together to market you.

Onto Today’s Topic

Your Expectations & The Importance of Taking You Time

As Cindy Personalized Marketing Inc’s business manager says, “It’s the end of the 1st Quarter, where are you at, where did you expect to be, and what do you have to change?” If you are like many of us, the first quarter stats are where we will find these answers. Marketing, just like life requires change, so we must be open to it and look for the opportunities. One great place to determine where these opportunities might be found, is your social network feeds and see what the top stories are for the day.

Another area to look for potential change is where you sell your products. Does your product image stand out? Is the description both accurate and SEO rich? What about how it looks on mobile devices? Websites aren’t the only place that you need to be checking if you are responsive. One example would be authors, there are hundreds of thousands of books out there for readers. Then you have e-readers such as Kindle or Nook, both of which have a different layout than the computer browser version. You also must consider the mobile device they are reading on, is it a tablet or cellphone? Did you know that the amount of description being displayed is different for each of the platforms? Thankfully there are tools out there that help us see the different layouts.

Give yourself a couple of days and just spend it looking at the different products you offer and how they are being displayed to the world.

The Importance of Taking You Time

As the weather continues to get warmer, the need to go outside increases. We want to bask in the sunlight, draw in it’s warmth and feel the warmer breeze on our faces. As you may have noticed in our last blog, I am suffering from Spring Fever. I cannot wait to go outside, unplug from everything, dig in the dirt and work in my garden. Earlier this week we mowed our lawn for the first time this year and it was a great feeling. I didn’t have to think about what I was doing, just got out there and did it.

Here in lies a problem … I am not the only one out there excited about being outdoors, so are a lot of other people, and that could also include your focus groups. So, what do we do about this growing change in the habits of those we market too? We schedule posts around when their online. Stop, take in your surroundings, take time to smell the flowers, fire up the grill and share it with our followers. Being on social networks is all about being social. Putting up pictures of bunnies, flowers and sun kissed lakes are things that creates a sigh of peace and probably the people that are following you as well.

So go take some you time, use it to see what’s going on in the world around you, find some new inspiration and give yourself a chance to meander down the isle or through the park. Have a Happy & Blessed Easter!

Spring Marketing Flower - Personalized Marketing Inc

Spring Marketing

Category:Articles By Dee Carver,Personalized Marketing Inc,PM Inc,Real Marketing for Organic Growth Tags :

Yay! Spring Is Here!!!

We have a few things to celebrate, #PMInc’s #CoverHunt Contest is just around the corner… April 1st… and we have some great authors participating in the event. We also have a nice Grand Prize gift and some smaller gift baskets to offer. My first book, La Roe’s, is a part of the event and after a decade of waiting, it is finally being rewritten and will be available for Pre-Order. Business is going well, and our clients as always are fabulous! Click the banner below to join before signups close.  ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓

Also, as you may have noticed the tone of the blog has changed some over the past several months, partly because I began taking courses for an M.B.A. with a marketing concentration and I am sharing some of the information I have learned throughout my courses. Some of it is because of what we have going on with work, and some of the blogs because someone asked us to write one about it. So, as I write this blog, I am thinking about what useful information I can share and how it pertains to this exact moment.

Spring Marketing Flower - Personalized Marketing Inc

This week’s blog is about, yup you guessed it, Spring! At this time of year, it is a good time to reevaluate what you are doing, where you want to go and how you plan on getting there. We are nearing the end of March, the first quarter of the year and as the weather gets warmer outside, what projects we are going to do. This year, I am blessed enough to have a place where I can plant a garden with my grandchildren. The idea of getting outside and digging in the dirt has this geek going ‘Yippie!’ so as I begin to think of the work involved and what we want to plant, it has inspired a blog about Spring Marketing.

Spring marketing is more than just posting images about Spring being here, it’s also realizing that your target audiences have been just as cooped up as you have been. They are looking forward to getting outside more, maybe riding bikes, planting flowers, or just soaking up some much-needed sun. No matter what their plans are, the times they are online are going to change drastically. To understand better when they will be around to read those great posts you’ve been making you have to know your audience demographics and begin to calculate when to shift your posting times.

Hopefully, you have been reading some of our articles about analytics and know where to view at the very least the basics. If not, now is the time! Do NOT wait until April before you start working on knowing where, when and what to post. DO IT NOW!

Hopefully, you and your marketing company have been planning your spring marketing for a couple of months now. If not, then schedule that appointment today.

Spring, just like any other season has its own marketing niches and if you are not planning around them then you are missing out on some major opportunities. (Notice what is being advertised on TV, in Newspapers, over the Radio, they are all SPRING focused.) The big advertising agencies know that people are feeling the urge to get outside and beat the ‘cabin fever’ blues and you can either ride along the marketing trail or fight to stay where you are.

Wow!

Category:Articles By Dee Carver,Manager,Personalized Marketing Inc,PM Inc Tags :

So sitting here with Cindy, Personalized Marketing Inc’s manager, I am thinking about what today’s post should be about. A few weeks ago, life threw some serious curve balls and I found myself relying on Automation. Now we know how I feel about automating anything, I’m not a huge fan… Marketing, websites, newsletters, emails and anything thing you are putting out there, requires a personal touch. However, I learned a valuable lesson recently. Automation is not a bad thing. Its pretty much like any other piece of technology. It is what you make of it.

Granted, I schedule posts in advance and rely on automation to send them out. I plan client social media marketing material and use tools, such as Zoho Social, to send them out. However, it was not until recently that I embraced that tried and true form of ‘learning’ called ‘duh’. I spend each day planning out what we are putting on different social media networks and recently began using Google Calendar (Thanks to Cindy) for Personalized Marketing Inc items. I love my checklist and I want to see everything checked off by the end of the day. However, I was spending varying amounts of time each morning writing the same thing daily. By implementing daily and weekly tasks into the calendar, I spend less time planning and more time doing. I even found that spreadsheets have been saving me a ton of time looking stuff up by having things organized in a way that I can easily sort through.

I guess the focus of today’s ‘Wow’ is that 10 years later, I am still learning better ways to be more productive and offer more focused, quality time for our clients.

Tending Your Growth

Category:Articles By Dee Carver,Personalized Marketing Inc,PM Inc,Real Marketing for Organic Growth Tags :

It’s Frigid Outside

Often times the blogs are about something that has happened recently or focusing on a particular topic. One thing that is a constant right now, is the cold weather outside. Do not get me wrong I like Winter (to a point) but I am also looking forward to Spring. This year my granddaughter and I are growing a garden, which means she and I both get to play in the dirt.

To have a good garden you need good soil, water, sunlight and someone tending to it. The same thing can be said for your marketing, social networks, email campaigns, and websites. You cannot just create a network and expect it to grow without someone tending to it. You have to go there, put content out, comment on others, and tend to your growing network.

Websites also have areas that require weekly tending and depending on how the website is built it could require daily tending. Take a WordPress website, for example, it not only has the WordPress core that tends to update at random but also plugins as well. The thing about when the core updates some of the website’s functionality can disappear or even break. Gone are the days of when a plugin stopped working, it just stopped working, it did not bring your website down or create funky codes all over the place. In the past few months, I have seen several long-standing plugins stop working due to a recent core update. Does this mean that these plugins are no longer any good? No, it just means that either they will not work and can even bring your website down until either WordPress puts out another update that does not conflict with it. Or, the plugin developers issue a new version that is compatible.

Finally, no matter if you decide to interact with others once a week, twice a week, or each day, be consistent. Just as when it comes time to harvest your produce, pick routinely or get overwhelmed, people tend to get used to hearing from you certain times of the day or week.
